What Is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.

Massage alleviates the soft tissue discomforts associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain syndromes. It can also greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning, if employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury.

What is the Education of an R.M.T.?
Provincially controlled, the education, examination and regulation of massage therapists are qualified by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Students complete 2,200 hours of intensive studies in anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, hydrotherapy, remedial exercises and clinical studies, including extensive practical instruction, at a government approved vocational school of massage therapy. Graduation is a prerequisite to taking provincial examinations; successful candidates then become licensed and registered under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) enacted December 21, 1993. All current massage therapists (RMT's), are members of this College.

Who is Christopher Edgar R.M.T.?
My clinic's objective is that "therapist" is not only a "person skilled in the corrective treatment of disease or other disorders". (Sauders Encyclopedia and Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health, 4th Edition) I believe "Therapist" is a teacher . As a Registered Massage Therapist, I believe the most important affect is the increased body awareness . The feeling of relaxation and rejuvenation that is felt after a massage is short lived, however, the knowledge of your body has increased, the potential for greater healing with increased circulation has been felt and with that knowledge, I believe there are remedies. I choose to teach people how to maintain that relaxed feeling, how to create that feeling again at home or at work and ways to prevent reoccurrences of pain and dysfunction. That learning process varies greatly with each person and I respect that everybody is on their own "path of health". However, I believe in prevention and responsibility for your own well being.
